Orono, Minnesota is situated on the northern shores of Lake Minnetonka in Hennepin County. According to the 2010 census, the city’s population was 7,437.
The Township of Orono was created out of the southern half of Medina on April 9, 1889, named by former Minneapolis mayor and Orono, Maine native George Brackett, who retired to a lake home in the township in 1905.
In 1955, Orono Village was incorporated, encompassing the settlements of Navarre, Crystal Bay, Orono and Bederwood (Stubbs Bay).
Orono has been the site of homes of the CEOs of numerous corporations, including Target, Cargill, UnitedHealth Group and others. The city has also hosted a property of former Minnesota Timberwolves star Kevin Garnett.
