Long Lake Estate Planning & Probate Attorney

Long Lake, Minnesota

Long Lake Township is part of the Central Lakes Region of Minnesota, which is home to more than 90,000 people and growing every year. From 1970 to 2000, the Township’s population increased by 47 percent, which is well above the averages of both the nearest city Brainerd and the state of Minnesota as a whole. According to a 2005 report from the Community Growth Institute, the Township is projected to grow by an additional 56 percent by 2030. This increase will almost certainly lead to a faster increase in land and housing values than the historical average as demand exceeds supply.

The report shows that the Township’s median household income grew faster than the state average in the 1990s due to a dramatic increase in professional jobs, which can also be linked to the increase in household income and housing values, based on professionally oriented people moving into the Township and working outside of the Township.

Topographically, the Township is comprised of forests, wetlands, woodlands, grasslands, and agricultural landscapes. Nearly half of the Township is covered in widespread grasslands, with most of previous prairie lands converted to agricultural uses. Remaining prairies provide important habitat for migratory birds and many game species.

Less than 1.5 percent of the Township is considered developed, though that number may be slightly higher with recent developments. Annexation from nearby Brainer would bring higher density development, more traffic, less vegetation and animal habitat, and make way for expansive lawns and pavement.
